Long time no see
Sorry for leaving this neglected for so long again.
This article was actually supposed to go up at the end of last year, but before I knew it, I’d put it off for over a month.
This time, I’m just jotting down random thoughts that aren’t really worth adding as an update to any of my previous blog posts. To let the past be the past.
It’s purely self-indulgent, but it shouldn’t be too long, so please bear with me.

Arch Linux + RX7900XT + Stable Diffusion WebUI (without arch4edu and Docker)(2024-09-17)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0006.html
Everything is out of dated
Python 3.10 is definitely outdated. Stable Diffusion WebUI (AUTOMATIC1111) itself feels like a relic from another era, making me feel the impermanence of all things.
Regarding the package manager pip, I’ve started seeing claims about its unreliability and lack of users. It makes me reflect that perhaps I should stop pretending to be so detached from the real world. While uv seems to be the most modern option, many things are still written assuming pip, so I’m wondering what to do about it.
Making use of MOBO TenkeyPad 2 Duo (AM-NPBW22) on Linux(2024-10-12)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0007.html
I haven’t written the driver software
I thought, “I’ll just whip this up in C++ in no time,” but I haven’t even started. It seems harder than I expected, and I figured it wasn’t worth the trouble to replace the default driver (hid-generic)…
Introducing Pi-Hole to my parent’s home network(2025-03-28)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0008.html
I’ve been running it for about a year with occasional maintenance, and it’s been working perfectly fine. However, I’ve noticed an issue where name resolution takes longer when iCloud Private Relay is blocked on iOS devices, and I need to figure out a way to address that.
Kind HTTP Response Headers(2025-05-20)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0009.html
This article was featured in the Dabun News (駄文にゅうす) on June 26, 2025. I was really surprised. Thank you so much.
Incidentally, the crucial Google Privacy Sandbox project was announced to be ending last October1, so the significance of this article has diminished.
Google is known for ruthlessly ending projects once they’re deemed unprofitable. However, since this technology was meant to be the core of an entirely new ecosystem, it feels less like a cost-benefit decision and more like bowing to regulatory authorities. Even though I’ve criticized it extensively, I certainly don’t mean to cheer for regulation. In fact, I feel even more strongly that the ecosystem supporting the current internet is fundamentally flawed. Therefore, I harbor no ill will toward Google for skillfully navigating regulations and proposing alternative innovations (even if they were hard to accept). This is the point I wanted to make clear.
It’s a bit funny that I set such strict CSP rules in the latter part of the article that even I find them troublesome, but considering the stance that standards will only get stricter from here on out, this might be for the best. Whether it’s regulation or technical difficulty, the path to innovation lies precisely in overcoming some form of inconvenience.
Fix volume adjustment steps on Manjaro Cinnamon 6.4.10(2025-06-24)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0010.html
This still serves as a useful personal memo. I just added a note that the system needs to be restarted after doing this, since I hadn’t mentioned it before.
Also, as many of you may have noticed, the desktop style was partially broken. Changing the theme from Adapta-nokto-Maia to cinnamon fixed it.
Add browsers to profile-sync-daemon on my own(2025-06-24)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0011.html
When I searched for “profile-sync-daemon,” it apparently showed up quite high in the results. Thankfully, it had the most views, and some people even left feedback in the comments. I’d like to try it on Chromium-based systems sometime soon.
Mediatek MT7921K failed(2025-07-06)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0012.html
The MT7921 supports Wi-Fi 6, while the MT7921K supports Wi-Fi 6E. I added the difference.
Incidentally, the Intel AX200NGW I replaced it with also broke after about three months, so I’m now using a USB dongle. I should have just used that from the start. To all you wise folks out there, I recommend not placing important components under your graphics card.
Also, I’m embarrassed to admit I forgot to cover the chip’s Data Matrix, so I’ve edited the image.
Discontinuation of the 5x2.de email(2025-07-26)
https://alvine.org/en/blog/0013.html
The article that received the most feedback (from Japanese language speakers). I only realized this after receiving several emails pointing it out: as of January 2026, 5x2.de continues to provide email service.
While new registrations are indeed suspended, you can still log in as before and send/receive emails without issue. I wondered if it might be some kind of email spoofing, so I verified the notification emails and added the results to the article.
To state the conclusion here: “Stop using it.” I realize it’s incredibly distanerous to say this after using it for free, but I don’t believe we should demand accountability from a service that doesn’t charge anything. I’m afraid that I’m doing something spiteful as I leave, but I’m truly sorry about that. It was a very unique and excellent service. Thank you.
